Abstract

The article examines social, psychological and cultural-historical factors influencing the choice of personal names in modern English and Karakalpak languages. A personal name in all its full characteristics represents the intersection of linguistic and extralinguistic plans. Names of any language react vividly to events in social, economic, cultural, political life, as well as to trends related to fashion and popularity. As a result of the analysis of the lists of the most popular names in Great Britain and Karakalpakstan, the main extralinguistic factors influencing the choice of names were formulated.
