Abstract

Mastering the proper use of articles poses a formidable challenge for English language learners, particularly for those whose native languages lack articles. This challenge persists even for advanced learners. The complexity of article usage stems from its non-conformity to simple explanations, as the definite article “the” does not always encode definiteness or contextual uniqueness, and its usage is not strictly idiomatic. This complexity makes articles a persistent challenge for English learners across all proficiency levels.
